The luck of the Irish in the heart of Southport and St Helens!

Punch Tarmey’s is an Irish pub on Lord Street, Southport and Westfield Street St Helens. The St Helens venue opened on December 1, 2017 and is proving to be a favourite place for many in the town. Southport’s authentic Irish pub is the latest addition to our expanding family! With Irish music during the day and a party atmosphere by night, you can be sure of a more-than-warm welcome as we transport you to Ireland as soon as you’re over the threshold!

Unmistakably Irish…

With fixtures and fittings shipped all the way the way from Ireland to complete the authentic look and feel by our Dublin-based design team, Punch Tarmey’s is blending an old fashioned pub culture with the trends of today… complemented by an extensive cocktail menu and no less than 42 gins and whiskeys to work your way through, you’ll be sure of a good ‘craic’ here!

The very best combination!

In addition to our well-stocked bar, all major sporting fixtures will be screened on the televisions around the bar – and we won’t let you go hungry either, as the delicious food we’re well-known for will be freshly prepared by chefs at the Bold Hotel and delivered right to your table!

From one family, to another…

As Punch Tarmey’s joins our family of bars, there’s another family proudly on display – the boxing theme to the pub is in honour of owner, Andrew Mikhail’s, great grandfather, Michael Tarmey, who was a champion boxer in the early 1900s.He started as a bare-knuckle fighter in Dublin and won a fighting tournament with the prize of two tickets to sail to Liverpool. Michael and his 19 year old bride moved to Merseyside in 1902 to start a new life together.

He won many tournaments in England and became well known in the area, gaining the nickname, Punch Tarmey, after whom the bar is named!
