Expansion in Southport

Expansion in Southport

The New Year starts for the Mikhail Hotel and Leisure Group with a BANG and an announcement of plans to expand further in Southport.

The group, which owns the Bold Hotel, has submitted plans to open a 27 bedroom boutique hotel in the town centre.

Work is already underway to open the hotel in the summer of 2018, just yards from the doors of the popular 4-star Bold Hotel. The new hotel will be built above Khepri nightclub which will become an upmarket champagne and wine bar.

The hotel will be to the same standards and high specifications that people have come to enjoy and expect from the Mikhail Hotel and Leisure Group (MHALG) brand.

Andrew Mikhail, chairman of the Mikhail Hotel and Leisure Group, said: “We are really excited to start the New Year with the announcement that Lord Street and Southport is to get another high standard boutique hotel. We saw great potential in the town when we first came across the Bold Hotel at the start of 2016. Since acquiring that and bringing it up to the standard that it is now, we have opened another three venues within a very small radius as we know that the customer base is there for the right type of business.

“The Bold Hotel is often fully booked and this year has ran at 95% occupancy which says not only are the rooms a high standard but we know that there is a demand for another high quality hotel in the town achieving the same standards as the Bold.

He continued: “We have worked closely with Sefton Council’s planning department when we have been developing our other sites and we have now submitted another application to them for this hotel. We believe that what we are doing is truly enhancing a previously neglected part of the town. What we are creating can only add to the investment coming into the town and the number of jobs that the group has created. The new hotel will create another 50 jobs.

“Once we have the go ahead, we plan to open in the summer and look forward to showing people how we have transformed all four storeys of the previously derelict building.”

The plans for the new hotel signify continued investment in the town by the Group. In March 2016 they opened the doors of the Bold Hotel following a multi million pound refurbishment. In the short space of time since the Bold opened, they have acquired and developed a number of surrounding buildings and they have been a major force in creating the ‘Northern Quarter’ of Southport’ and this second hotel will just add to that.

In December 2016, they opened the first of a planned chain of Punch Tarmey’s – an Irish pub on the corner of Lord Street and Union Street. In July 2017 they opened Khepri nightclub and restaurant and Khepri Express takeaway. Mr Mikhail has recognised that the noise of the club has been an issue in the area and when there are 27 bedrooms above there he recognises there will be a need for a dramatic change of noise levels underneath the rooms and a classy wine bar/champagne bar fits perfectly in the Northern Quarter with musicians playing saxophone, piano, amongst other talented artists every weekend.

They also own the Eccleston Arms hotel in St Helens which opened in 2015 as the first acquisition of the group. Their latest venue to open is Punch Tarmey’s St Helens which opened on December 1st 2017.

Khepri nightclub will remain open on Saturday nights until further notice.
